Every 365 days, we get excited about the things that comes with the welcoming new year – lucky number, horoscopes, feng shui reads, and of course, the color of the year.

But have you ever wondered how this is determined? Read our blog to learn about Pantone and how their role as color partners is crucial in reaching the peak of business success.

2019’s color of the year gives drive to the current goal of restoring our marine life. It's called “Living Coral”. As described in Pantone’s official site, “Living Coral” is an "animating and life-affirming" hue which "energizes and enlivens with a softer edge", inspired by the beauty and fragility of our marine life and oceans. It somehow reminds us how important it is to keep our environment healthy in order to maintain such bright and lively color. For the past great number of years, Pantone’s Color of The Year has influenced product innovation and purchasing decisions in different industries. But mind you, choosing the color of the year is not as easy as choosing your OOTD.

It goes through a process of selection, putting into consideration the following influences: entertainment industry and films in production, traveling art collections and new artists, fashion, all areas of design, popular travel destinations, as well as new lifestyles, play styles, and socio-economic conditions. There are also influences that are rooted from current technologies, materials, textures, relevant social media trends and even upcoming events of any kind that can draw attention from people around the globe. These influences coupled with seasonal trend forecasts, color psychology, and color consulting are used by Pantone Color Institute to exercise the power, psychology, and emotion of color in the design strategy of their global partners.

Everytime a color of the year is introduced to the public, people go buzzing over it and business brands take advantage of it being the talk of town. They start to release products that carry the color trend in order to call the attention of their audience. With the release of the “Living Coral” as this year’s color trend, expect to see home products, wardrobe offers, beauty kits, room decors, office set ups and a lot more that goes with this color.

Quoting from Pantone, “Lying at the center of our naturally vivid and chromatic ecosystem, PANTONE Living Coral is evocative of how coral reefs provide shelter to a diverse kaleidoscope of color.” More than the introduction of a new color scheme, may we see the message behind it – to restore what has been damaged, to keep what is still in good shape, to save what we still can, and to preserve and protect what is left in order to prepare a brighter and vibrant future for everyone, not just in business, but the whole world in general.
