If you are planning in creating and managing your own website, perhaps the first thing that comes to mind when it comes to setting up the marketing strategy for your website is using Google Adwords. There are a lot of business owners that use adwords nowadays. Google even has its own learning center where you can learn using its adword feature for as long as 10 to 20 hours. You can also take their certification exam and if you manage to meet the requirements, then you can manage at least one account in adwords.

Using adwords is fine for most business owners who are managing their own website. But if you do not familiarize yourself with the popular marketing tool, then you might end up wasting money, instead of earning.  So, are you wasting your money on Adwords? Learn from eBay.

1. Too many uses of keywords

When you create new ad groups or campaigns, there are a lot of people who begin using every keyword that they can think of. Do not make the same mistake. Instead of generating a lot of keywords, try to think about your niche and all of the categories that are within the niche itself. You can use a variety of keywords to determine which ones to use the most and not have to generate thousands of keywords yourself.

2. Sending your web visitors to your homepage

Most web owners that use a PPC account send the majority of traffic and visitors directly to their homepage. Most of the time, webpages contain too much information and your visitors might opt to leave your site before they can explore what’s inside.

3. You are ignoring your competition

Competition is always present when you are starting your own business, and the internet is no exception. Always remember to analyze your competitors by using applications like a keyword tool. It might also be a good idea to check your competitor’s sites for overall content and impression. Yes, the competition is tough. Looking at how eBay has grown, you could see how the business grow. eBay may have placed its trust online, but it never failed to dive into a different campaign to compete with the others.

4. You are not tracking your ads and keywords

Everything is all set, you have your keywords and your ads but you see that there is still something missing. One of the most common mistakes when it comes to using adwords is not tracking your keywords and your ads. If these two are not performing the way you want it to be, then you are just wasting your money. Try using a few applications that you can find on the internet that can help you track adword and keyword activity. Your keywords also need to be tested and tracked so that you will not have any problems when it comes to misspellings, stemming options or plural forms.

Adwords advertising can always generate a good business platform for you, but if you do not use it wisely, you might end up wasting money rathe than making it. Use Adwords wisely!
